Combating Phony Bids on eBay

Tuesday November 9, 2004
One of the unfortunate topics I had to cover in my book related to shill bidding, or the practice of injecting phony bids into auction bidding to falsely elevate the price of an item. It happens in live auctions from time to time, and on eBay as well. Some of the crooked sellers shill bidding on cars, artwork and sports memorabilia have been caught and ordered to pay hefty sums in restitution as punishment for their dishonesty. Read a CNN.com article to learn more about shill bids on eBay and the unscrupulous sellers who employ them.
