Exploring the History of Capodimonte

Tuesday March 28, 2006
While many porcelain enthusiasts think of television shopping club items made and sold during the last 20 years or so when Capodimonte comes to mind, these Italian wares actually date all the way back to the 1750s when it was first produced in royal factories abroad. This feature article provides an overview on the history of these lovely ceramics, right from the beginning in Naples, Italy, and provides links to current Capodimonte sites where you can find pieces that are being hand crafted today.

(1) JUDY DOYLE says:

I have a Capo Di Monte piece. It has the blue crown over the capital N and under that is “CAPODIMONTE” and MADE IN ITALY.

Is there a resource that can tell me when it was made? Looking at it closely, the work is not high quality.

(3) Dana Lincoln says:

My daughter broke several pieces of my Italian copodimonte . My grandfather had purchases it and it had the marking N at the base. I believe the artist was Norris It was 2 men drinking at a table. There was a dog and a cat beneath the table. It was very valuable and sentimental. Have you ever heard of anyone repairing compodimonte? Do you know anything more about this piece. I am crushed and terribly saddened.
