Exploring a Few Summer Safety Considerations

Monday June 16, 2008
Summer's settled in for the long haul here in Texas and the air conditioners are already working overtime. I know some of my friends back east were sweltering last week, too, and will likely be in that position again before sum-sum-summertime takes its leave. Whether you're storing, repairing or displaying some of your fabulous finds this summer, you'll want to take care to keep them safe. Read Five Ways to Ruin Antiques to find out what not to do when it comes to safely handling your antiques and collectibles.

Some of my fellow guides on About.com can help you out with summer safety ideas, too. Read Making (and Burning) Candles Safely whether you're making them yourself, or just burning them, for a few safety guidelines for keeping pets, children and adults safe while enjoying summer fun. And How to Safely Work with Lead-Based Paint will help if you live in a home built prior to 1978 and might be considering a summer remodel. Most do-it-yourselfers are surprised to learn that with just a few simple precautions they can safely work with lead-based paint.
