Have You Seen the New Antiques Roadshow Web Site?

By July 20, 2008

Follow me on:

Antiques Roadshow updated its Web presence recently, and I'm really liking the result. One of my favorite features is a searchable archive of the appraisals aired on the show. I can use it as a valuation guide or just look up a favorite appraisal I remember seeing on the show. Brings back memories of my last visit to an Antiques Roadshow taping, a "road trip" I won't soon forget!

Been to an Antiques Roadshow taping? Post a blog comment and share your experience with us.

(23) Deb says:

I have come across a couple of cigarette dispencers.
One is about 9 1/2 in.tall,2 1/4 in.deep,41/2 in.wide. Flowers are engraved all over, front has two large flowers with stems, back has two large like plumes oppisite each other. Stands on four 2 1/8 in. legs. The metal is either pot metal or cast(is heavy). On front of the top is a small key in the middle of a small flower to pull down front of box. When pulled down four small gold shelfs come dowm with cutouts for cigarettes to lay in. Has wind up music box at top above cigarettes, with the words “Thorens Movement
La Matchiche La Petite Tonquinoise,
Made in Switzerland”.

The other container is 7 1/4 in. tall, round, looks like old pitted potmetal but not as heavy. Three small wood balls for feet, when pulled up from top it looks like a flower the way the small cigarette clamps are arranged in a circle, some clamps have paper imatation cigarettes in them, rest are empty. This also has a wind up music box and marking on bottem. Marking looks like a man holding a harp.(I can’t see that well).
How do I find out their worth, and their history?

I bought a watch at an online auction. The case is red satin with gold trim. Inside the case, it says, “Since, Imperial, 1848.” Under that, it says, “Cased and timed in USA.”

The watch is in good condition. It seems to work as I hear it ticking and it seems to keep time. I have only wound it once to see if the hands work properly and if it ticks. It has a small chain-like band…looks to be as child’s watch or a very small wristed lady’s watch. The watch case (in which the workings are held) is elongated with some type of gold and black etching around the glass. The crystal is in good condtion…not any scratches.

On the clasp, it says, “Sturdy.” Under that it says, 1/20 12 K gold filled.

Does anyone know about it’s possible value?

I see their are several people on here inquiring about a Artist known by the name of “DeJack” I also purchased a oil painting of his about 2 years ago in a thrift shop near La Habra California. This oil painting depicts a African village scene that is very vibrant in color. Also this oil painting looks to me to be around the era of the late 1930′s the canvas is aged but the scene is incredible. The painting depicts African villagers in a daily life with huts and people working. I would like to know also if anyone has information about this artist. Thank you

Having watched your show, I have several items I believe are of considerable value and wondered how I could have them valued.
I write to you from Zimbabwe, where many of those who knew the value of antiques have since left the country.
Can you help?

Kind regards
Kathy Kelly
