Living with Black Americana

If you've ever seen an old washing powder box featuring the Gold Dust Twins, or a menu card from the Coon Chicken Inn restaurant, you'll know why many people find black Americana to be offensive. All things considered, you might wonder what makes people want to collect this type of memorabilia in the first place. When you read Living with Black Americana, the answer may prove to be surprising. And, you'll find that these things can have a place in Black History Month remembrances. The early engraving of actor Ira Aldridge show here is a good example.
