Living with Black Americana

If you've ever seen an old washing powder box featuring the Gold Dust Twins, or a menu card from the Coon Chicken Inn restaurant, you'll know why many people find black Americana to be offensive. Add in the subservient nature of Aunt Jemima and the cook from old Cream of Wheat advertisements, and things really get dicey. All things considered, you might wonder what makes people want to collect this type of memorabilia in the first place.
