If you have a question, please read the Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.) below prior to emailing me. There's a good chance the information you're looking for may be covered in the F.A.Q.
Email submissions of antiques-related shopping sites, informational resources, etc. are always welcomde as suggestions for my review.
To write to me and/or send a suggestion, simply send an email to antiques.guide@about.com.
Please note: I try to acknowledge all email, but due to the large volume of requests I receive this may not be immediate. If you don't hear back from me, there is a good chance your email either went into spam and I never saw it. Or, I may not readily have the information you're seeking available and have not had the opportunity to let you know yet.
- How can I find out what my antique is worth?
- First step, check the Valuing Antiques section listed in the in the top tabs on the Antiques site. If you don't find the information you need there, try posting a question to the Antiques Forum available on this site (click on "Discuss in the forum" just under the newsletter sign-up box). Or, you my want to consider submitting a photo to a reputable service like Worthpoint.com for a reasonably priced valuation.
- Can you help me identify antiques I have in my home?
- Due to the volume of email I receive, I can answer only a limited number of free requests of this nature. Some requests require more research than I can take the time to accomplish while keeping up with the other demands of the Antiques site. Other collectors check the Antiques Forum (see information above) often, so posting a question there will broaden your prospect of getting an answer or you can submit photos of your item to a service like Worthpoint.com for a reasonably-priced assessment.
- Do you include every site recommended as an addition to your Net links?
- About.com encourages its expert guides to provide only the highest quality sites and content for their users, so I'm not always able to include every site that's recommended for review. I do, however, appreciate all submissions and give them consideration before making a determination on their worth to the site.
- What are your qualifications as an antiques "expert?"
- Beginning in my mother's shop, I have spent more than 40 years studying antiques. I've also combined my passion for antiques and my educational background as a journalist writing on antiques topics not only for About.com but publications ranging from national magazines to local newspapers. I completed the International Society of Appraisers core courses in appraisal studies and have served as an expert consultant on antiques as well as educating others through classes, interviews and lectures.
