Here's How:
- Arrive early to hold a chair in a location where you'll be able to see and feel comforatable.
- Carefully inpsect the items you're interested in purchasing for any type of damage.
- Take notes on condition and lot number (if used) of items to reference once the auction begins.
- Review any reference guides you brought along to determine the maximum you're willing to pay for each lot on your list and record it in your notes.
- Register for a bidder's number before the auction begins to avoid missing any of the action.
- Follow the action and bid on the things you like, but take careful notice of the maximum price you set for yourself on each lot.
- Only bid over your maximum price if you know you'll kick yourself for leaving the piece behind.
- Don't look back if you lose a bid, just congratulate yourself for keeping your impulse spending in check and move on to the next item.
- Take your time inspecting items, since most auction items are sold as is meaning there are no returns.
- Be respectful of others trying to see and take your seat while bidding is in progress.
- Ask what types of payment are accepted, if the auction house charges a buyer's premium and inquire about hauling/delivery concerns before you bid.
