Contact Your Guide - Pamela Wiggins

Thanks for visiting Antiques & Collecting at About.com. My name is Pamela Wiggins, and it's my pleasure to serve as your guide on this topic.

If you have a question, please read the FAQ below before emailing me. Chances are, the information you're looking for already resides on the site or may be covered in the FAQ. Or, you can speak with me on the phone by clicking on the oval "Keen" button above.

Email submissions of antiques related shopping sites, articles, informational resources, etc. are always welcome as suggestions for my review.

I try to acknowledge all my email, but due to the volume, it often takes me several weeks to review all the site suggestions and get back to people. Please be patient and allow sufficient time for an answer.

If you can't find the information you're looking for in the FAQ listed below, consider visiting the antiques chats schueduled for Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CST, or drop in at any time to converse with other collectors, including myself.

To write to me and/or send a contribution, simply send an email to antiques.guide@about.com.

Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

Q. Are you an accredited appraiser?

A. Yes. My appraisal service provides written documents which can be used for insurance, charitable donations and estate purposes. Along with being an accredited appraiser through the International Society of Appraisers, I'm also a writer, collector and antiques dealer.

Q. How can I find out what my antique is worth?

A. First step, check the Valuing Antiques section listed in the Subjects on the Antiques site. If you don't find the information you need there, try posting a question to the Antiques Forum available on this site.

Q. Can you recommend a book on a specific antiques collecting niche?

A. Yes. If I have a book in my own library related to the topic you're interested in, I'd be happy to recommend it. I've also set up a book review section within the Antiques & Collecting Bookstore. If you need more information on one of the titles listed there, just ask.

Q. Can you help me identify an antique item I have in my home?

A. I try to do my best. My specialties are vintage jewelry, depression glass and ladies accessories such as compacts, purses, etc. I have a broad knowledge of other types of glassware, porcelain, paper items and holiday decorations along with other areas of collecting, but I'm still learning too. Other collectors check the Antiques Forum often, so posting a question there will broaden your prospects of getting an answer.

Q. Can you help me identify an item without a picture?

A. In most cases, no. Without a picture of the item, it's virtually impossible to point you in the right direction for identification.

Q. Do you include every site recommended as an addition to your net links?

A. About - The Human Internet encourages guides to provide only the highest quality sites for their users to browse, so I'm not always able to include every site that's recommended for review. I do, however, appreciate all submissions and give them careful consideration.
