Running parallel with the Renaissance Revival style (and containing many of the same elements, confusingly) was Gothic Revival. Pointed tops, spiky pilasters, arches and rosette motifs tended to distinguish the style - even if these elements originally decorated medieval cathedrals rather than furniture.
