A spectacular collection of Amphora pottery including a number of very rare designs will headline the decorative arts sale at Morphy Auctions’ on Nov. 2-3, 2012. The Les Cohen collection includes more than 150 exceptional examples of Amphora, a number of which are the actual pieces shown in reference guides covering this type of pottery.

Shown here is an extraordinary Amphora bat vase that will be included in the auction. This 10” tall example of Amphora artistry features a bat with outstretched wings and tail rounding the sides of the vase. It has a raised Amphora circular mark with remnants of a paper Amphora label still present. This extremely rare design is illustrated in Monsters and Maidens by Byron Vreeland on page 352.

In mint condition, the pre-auction estimate for this piece is $8,000-$14,000.
