Steiff began producing stuffed animals in Germany in the late 1800s, but didn't gain wide recognition until the company's famous "Teddy" bears were first manufactured in 1902. Since then myriad bears and other high-quality animals crafted from plush mohair have been produced, and the company is still doing business in Giengen/Brenz, Germany.
