Torsade of freshwater cultured pearls, diamond clasp set in 14K white gold

--Lang Antique and Estate Jewelry (/www.langantiques.com)

Definition: a piece of jewelry - usually a necklace or a bracelet - consisting of several strands that are twisted together to produce a rope-like effect ("torsade" means "twist" or "cable" in French); typically made of seed pearls, but chains or other beaded stones can be used as well; while an old style - examples have been found in ancient Egypt - today the term is often associated with the thick, short, multi-strand necklaces popular in the 1980s

Also Known As: twister

Example: A torsade necklace is usually short, around choker length - as opposed to another popular twisted-strand necklace, the very long sautoir.
