All antique collectors and dealers make mistakes. In fact, the learning curve antiquers inevitably face has been likened to "paying for your education." When you've paid good money for a piece only to discover you’ve been fooled by a reproduction, you probably won’t ever make the same mistake again.

- a few years back when I lived in northern maine I had bought a box of hummel figurines(20+) for 20$.I would of easily made my money back just from one piece.I took the entire box to my godparents, who in fact are antique dealers themselves.I felt so stupid and embarassed when it was confirmed that all of the hummels were repros. What became of the so-called hummels? They were smashed and disposed of like the trash they were.

- Yes I have - once knowingly and maybe two times unknowingly when I suspected but took a chance. The one deliberate time was buying an American Bisque cookie jar that at the time sold for well over $1500. I bought an excellent reproduction for $200.
